Michael Uwezu

Uwezu is the guy in the middle

Michael Uwezu had a brief and unspectacular career as a Lincoln City forward.

Nigerian-born Uwezu started his career with Arsenal’s academy but switched early on to West London side Fulham, where he earned his first professional contract.

On January 1st 2010 he signed on a months loan with Lincoln along with Matt Saunders as Joe Anderson signed a permanent deal. It looked like shrewd business at the time with Anderson having been on the bench in the Europa League and Saunders proving to be a slick midfielder. Uwezu was unfortunately the odd one out.

His first appearance came in the 4-0 FA Cup defeat at Bolton as a substitute for Lenny John-Lewis. It seemed harsh on Jamie Clarke who’s gals had fired us to the third round when he was omitted from the squad. He didn’t play again.

Uwezu made two further appearances from the bench before returning to his parent club Fulham having made no impact at Sincil Bank. Uwezu suffered from being one of the many experiments Chris Sutton conducted with our club. He didn’t have time to adjust to the rigours of lower league football and a month on loan from a Premiership academy simply wasn’t enough to adjust to the hustle ond bustle of League Two football.

He played consistently for Fulham reserves but didn’t make a senior appearance, and upon release a trial at Carlisle came to nothing.

Uwezu did feature for Forest Green in 2011/12 making 25 appearances and scoring just twice. After a brief spell at Thamesmead in the lower reaches of non-league he earned himself a move to Swedish second division side FC Linkoping City, which he chose (according to made up rumours) because of it’s closeness to Lincoln City.
