Injuries dog Imps quest for third straight win

The Imps are suffering with key injuries ahead of tomorrow’s tricky trip down to Bromley as they look to make it three straight wins going into the FA Cup weekend.

The main concern is with Bradley Wood. I’m told Bradley is rated as ‘doubtful’ for the clash after picking up an injury in the excellent 2-1 win at Wrexham. Since he’s been restored to midfield City have won both games and losing him would be a major blow.

Adam Marriott is still ruled out after breaking him elbow in the behind closed doors friendly with Peterborough.  Two X-rays have failed to ascertain the extent of the injury, but it will keep him out of proceedings tomorrow.

Up front we’re beginning to look a little thread bare as Macauley Bonne is also a potential omission tomorrow. He’s been struggling with a sickness bug all week, and to make matters worse Matt Rhead could miss out after picking up a knock against Wrexham.

Finally left back Sam Habergham is also struggling and has been on a managed training programme this week along with the other casualties.

The potential permutations are endless but from what I understand the biggest worry is over Bradley Wood. It looks highly likely that the much-maligned Tom Champion may start in midfield. I still believe Tom has a lot to offer and with Bromley carrying a significant set-piece threat he might just begin to show what he is capable of.

Tougher than a month old steak

Up front things could look very unfamiliar with all of our recognised strikers carrying injuries that could rule them out. Although it highlights the need for a new signing relatively quickly, tomorrow’s game will come far too soon. I’d expect Jack Muldoon to be in the mix for a starting berth, but more interestingly I wonder if perhaps Nathan Arnold might accompany him up front? Arnold has an eye for goal and has been one of our best players so far this season and I wouldn’t be surprised as a senior pro to see him switch if the need arises.

However we all know that Matt Rhead is tougher than a month old T-bone steak, and I think it’s possible that of all the doubts for the match he is the one most likely to make it on to the team sheet.

Tomorrow represents a good chance to get three more points on the board before we enter a tough game at home to Eastleigh. In truth no game is easy at this level and October concludes with a tough looking trip to Chester after a home banker with Boreham Wood. To collect eight points from the twelve would keep us in the hunt, which means wins over Bromley and Boreham Wood.

However as we’ve already shown we seem to fare better against the bigger clubs and in the trickier matches. The draw with Solihull and the defeat by Sutton contrast sharply to wins at Tranmere and at away at Macclesfield.
