Here’s a round up of some of the headlines across our league today.
- Mansfield continued their busy May by bringing in another two new faces, taking the total of newcomers to ten in just a couple of weeks. Former Scunthorpe captain David Mirfin was first to sign up this morning, followed closely by ex-Chester winger Johnny Hunt. Both have had their pictures taken holding a scarf next to glamorous Carolyn Radford. It won’t be all sweetness and light once they’re trying to deal with a snarling Steve Evans though will it?
- Crewe Alexandra have signed up 25-year old striker Jordan Bowery after a loan spell from Leyton Orient. Bowery signed on loan in January as the Johnny Margetts loan fell through, and after scoring twice towards the end of the season, Alex have made his move permanent. Jordan is the son of former Imps player Bert Bowery, and he’s also played for Chesterfield, Aston Villa and Rotherham.

Former youth player Haydn Hollis has signed a new contract with Notts County. The 24-year-old central defender made 38 appearances in all competitions last season after coming through the Magpies’ academy. He made his debut in January 2012 and has scored seven goals in 133 appearances for the club.
- One of the pre-season favourites, Coventry City, have moved to boost their ranks. They’ve signed 27-year old midfielder Liam Kelly from relegated Leyton Orient on a two-year deal. Kelly has been capped once by Scotland, and has also played for Kilmarnock and Bristol City.
- Yeovil defender Alex Lacey has left Huish Park for the more opulent surroundings of Gillingham. He’d been attracting significant League One interest with both Oxford and Charlton keen on securing his services, but he opted to join Ady Pennock at Priestfield on the back of winning Yeovil’s Player of the Season.
- Grimsby have brought in the brother of Spurs and England full-back Danny Rose. Mitch Rose joins from fellow League Two strugglers Newport County on a two-year contract. He joined up with Newport in January, prior to that he had been at Mansfield Town.
And finally
- Crawley have appointed former Leeds and Galatasaray winger Harry Kewell as their manager, in a move that has surprised the football world. It is Kewell’s first management role, his only previous experience coming with Watford under 23’s. He brings in Warren Feeney as his assistant, a man who guided Newport towards the bottom of League Two last season. Kewell has absolutely no experience of anything other than top-flight football, and his appointment has a touch of the ‘Chris Sutton’ about it. For Crawley’s sake I hope I’m wrong!
