A tweet by Bristol Live reporter Gregor MacGregor has suggested the Imps have landed 22-year-old Joe Morrell on loan from Bristol City.
Morrell is a Wales Under 21 international with four Bristol City appearances to his name, including one in the Championship this season, as well as three starts in the FA Cup.
He’s previously enjoyed loan spells with Sutton, Margate and latterly Cheltenham Town, whom he made 38 outings for in the 2017/18 season. Rather ironcially, he made his Sutton debut on the Cowley’s first home defeat at Sincil Bank, way back in August 2016.
Morell is a central midfielder who can play on the left if required, although much of his football has come in the centre of the park. His previous experience suggests he’s more of a Mark O’Hara and Micahel O’Connor midfielder, rather than a Shay McCartan or Tom Pett.
It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if we were to borrow a player from Bristol City, given Jamie McCombe’s friendship with Lee Johnson. It’s also possible that they’ve seen clear to loan out Morrell as a direct result of Sammie Szmodics, who appears set to sign.
More on this if, or when, it becomes official.
