Trialists may be key to strengthening as Danny confirms transfer policy

This is the one that there is the most amount of debate about; was it Alex Wollerton we had on trial or not? If you were there, does it look like this guy?

If it was, he’s an interesting one. He’s a midfielder, usually central but known to play wide right and right wing too. Perhaps Danny is looking for a back-up for Harry, perhaps he’s just doing what I like to do best; browsing without serious intent. Wollerton would be the sort of player I’d like to see come in on trial, that’s for sure.

He played for Leeds Under 18 and U23 side, the latter of which is a hugely successful side. They’ve produced many a first team player for the Elland Road outfit, including Jack Clarke who recently joined Spurs for a good chunk of wedge. They recently saw Aapo Halme move from the Under 23 side to Barnsley and the Tykes also gave Wollerton a trial.

He also had a trial with Hull City, which suggests to me there is a tidy player in there. The fact neither side took him up on a contract suggests perhaps League One is where he’d be looking now, which is why he fits the bill.

I don’t think we necessarily need another central midfielder, but perhaps Danny is looking for a player he can bring in and loan out, like Joan Luque, with a view to handling development and first team football from afar.

  1. All those mentioned played yesterday. Harriman did OK – bit smaller than Eards. Edibor looked good but …..he had no real opposition so plenty of time with the ball.

  2. I don’t think the “Alex” that was playing looked anything like this guy. He was blond for a start.
