According to the East Anglian Daily Times, former Imps defender James Wilson is training with recently relegated Ipswich.

Wilson joined the Imps in January 2018, and still had one year remaining on his contract but the 30-year-old defender suffered a broken ankle against Cambridge meaning he only managed to make 15 appearances last year as the Imps secured the League Two title.

Wilson’s last appearance came on February 2 in the 1-1 draw at Notts County, before his contacted was terminated at the end of the season.

“James played his part in our success last season.

“He didn’t play as much as he would have liked because he was behind two very, very consistent performers in Michael Bostwick and Jason Shackell. That meant his opportunities were limited.

“James wanted to play and we had to free up some space in the budget, hence we’ve been able to do this,” said Danny Cowley in the Lincolnshire Echo.

Wilson joined up with the Ipswich squad at Playford Road on Wednesday for their first day back training since returning from their pre-season tour of Germany and Wilson could potentially be involved in the Tractor Boys friendly against Colchester this Friday.
