  1. Character wise he was my modern day Percy Freeman, feel lucky to have seen them both and the entertainment they gave us. Who will ‘chat’ to the opposition keepers now !?

  2. I know many will miss him but I think this is a step forward for everyone. Rheady obviously is going to a payday and regular football and we can go out and buy a proper League 1 No 9

  3. 6 figures? Honestly, i think you are miles off. He is a 35 year old bit part player in league 1. I’d guess 10,000 – 20,000 max. Good luck to Matt.. but a good move for the imps. Sentimentality wins nothing. A wage is now freed up for a younger player.

    • Do nt any Imps fans be a I illusion, Rheadys departure will leave a massive gap in the Imps squad and leave LCFC with no option but to buy a blockbuster striker to fill the role.
Well done Rheady, good luck for the future and thank you your huge contribution to the club. I will watch your progress closely!

  4. Nice piece Gary. This year I have been taking my young son to games (home and away) for his first experience of the Imps. Going with a youngster I have seen more things ‘around’ the games that I wouldn’t normally have noticed when in the pub or chatting with my mates – getting there early, down behind the advertising hoardings, watching the warm up drills and training, staying behind after the game, meeting the players, getting autographs etc. Youngsters’ views will also wander away from the game to see what the substitutes, coaches, ball boys etc. are doing! In all of these areas Rheady has been a great role model. In the warm-ups and drills his attitude and professionalism were spot on (and his touch, vision and distribution were as good as any!) I could definitely see his influence rubbing off on the younger players. He was always ready to have an impact even late in games and all the times we met and chatted with him he was amazing. He will be a huge miss for us around the club, but I have great faith that Danny and Nicky continue to attract players, permanent or loan, that not only do a job on the pitch but are the right fit for the club, building relationships with the family fan base and the city.

  5. Hasn’t this got Danny written all over it? Plays against Stoke then moves the next day? And off to Essex? In the same Division as Concord and Braintree. The Big Man has been put out to pasture. Respect due to the Big Man and Danny.

  6. There have been two items of news in the media in the past twenty four hours, both concerning former Lincoln City footballers. The first deals with the departure of a player who will now be playing in Division Six of the pyramid. The other is about Tony “Stormer” Lormor and his battle with cancer. One of the articles has attracted an outpouring of emotion, with words such as “shocked”, “gutted”, “sad” and “upset” being used. One contribution includes the line “I wish him all the best in the future, he genuinely deserves it”. Sadly, given the circumstances, the story about the battle with cancer has attracted none of these comments. Shameful.

    • I’m very, very disappointed you’ve chosen to contrast these two stories: that is shameful.

I’ve wished Tony well personally but wouldn’t think to run a story about his battles as I run football stories.

I know you don’t like Matt Rhead, but you’re scraping the barrel with this comment.
