We’re closing in on the big kick off and as yet, a whole army of Lincoln City fans haven’t seen the team in action.
I’m not the only one who avoids pre-season friendlies, it seems a large number of supporters are still waiting to get their first glimpse of the new signings. One of those, Jack Payne, is the subject of my interview in the first programme of the new season.
Payne joined on a free transfer after being released by Huddersfield Town but has previously enjoyed promotions with Southend United, Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield. He’s classed as an attacker by Danny, but widely seen as a midfielder elsewhere.
During our chat, Jack explained to me what sort of a player he is and what we can expect to see from him this coming campaign.
“First and foremost I work hard for the team, but that’s expected of everyone here, it’s a requirement.
“What I do individually, I like to create and get on the ball as much as possible. I love to make a goal for someone else, but I enjoy popping up with goals myself as well. I like to dribble at players and be exciting on the ball.”

That sounds just like the sort of player we needed, a man to sit behind the main striker but add value to the attack where possible.
The capture of Payne was seen as something of a coup, certainly by me! I’ve raved about him, labelling him as the single biggest signing we’ve made during my life as an Imps supporter. It begs the question, what attracted him to the club?
“I know the club has been really successful recently which helps. There’s a good feel around the place, there is a good thing going on here and it’s great for me to be involved in that.”
Find out what else attracted Jack to the team, how he feels pre-season has gone and a whole lot more in the club programme this weekend.
