New loan signing Callum Connolly had plenty to say after the 2-0 win against Fleetwood yesterday, having made his debut shortly after joining the club.
The 21-year-old made Tyler Walker’s second goal and had a busy afternoon on the ball before coming off for Michael O’Connor. He revealed how he enjoyed the game, believing the Imps’ could have scored more.
“Yeah, thoroughly enjoyed it, it was a great game to be fair, they had a lot of possession, but we were creating more chances. It could have been more than the two but we’re just glad of the win to be fair.”
He’s been with the club almost a week now, having first trained with us two days before the League Cup tie.
“I’ve loved it (so far), I came in Monday and trained the first few days. Then we had a game Wednesday which was a bit of a strange atmosphere for me! I enjoyed it though and I’m just looking forward to the season now.”
Much has been made of his versatility, having played left-back, right-back and central midfield. He clarified that he prefers the midfield tole but it happy to play wherever he’s asked by Danny.
“Throughout my career I’ve been playing all over the place. Hopefully, I can come here and play midfield, I see myself as a box to box but I’m happy to play wherever the gaffer wants me to play.”
Whenever he does play he’ll be delighted to do so in front of a crowd that he described as giving him ‘goosebumps’ in midweek.
“Playing in front of nine or ten thousand fans here is a great feeling. The atmosphere is massive, Wednesday night I got a shock, couldn’t believe it. One of the stands didn’t take a breath all game. I was getting goosebumps throughout and hopefully, that’ll continue all season.”
One game in, one assist on the board already; it might just be that Callum Connolly is an important piece of Danny’s complex jigsaw this season.
