Jorge Grant and Lewis Montsma have bagged first and second place in the Give Me Sport Player of the Month vote.

Grant is the official player of the month, with 39.1% of the vote run by fan engagement experts Snack Media. Grant, who also won the Stacey West player of the month, has been in superb form throughout the season. Playing on the left-wing, attacking midfield and holding midfield, the former Forest man has dictated play and acted as both a creator and goalscorer. He bagged four goals in October, although he didn’t directly assist any. That has helped him to a tally of eight goals and five assists already this season.

Despite several of the goals coming from the penalty spot, Grant has been a standout player for the Imps and rightly takes first place in the vote.

Interestingly, Lewis Montsma takes second place, beating off the likes of Sikiri Dembele, Hull City midfielder George Honeyman, Gwion Edwards and Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler. Our Dutch giant took 25.7% of the public vote to make it an impressive double for City. Montsma played seven times for the Imps through October, scoring the winner in the first game of the month at Blackpool.

Since then, the ‘gimmick’ of goalscoring centre back has worn off and we’ve seen the player he is, not just the banker on the betting site. His surging runs and solid defending have clearly caught the eye of supporters, giving his a quarter of the popular vote.

Whilst the poll is fan-driven, it is impressive to see two Lincoln players at the top, ahead of well-supported clubs such as Hull City and Ipswich who should have more voting power than us humble Imps. Luckily for us, a handful of other players could almost certainly have staked a claim for a place on the poll, in particular Harry Anderson, who not only scored in October, but played in all eight matches, starting seven.

It is nice to see that whilst we do have one or two standout players, the rest of the squad are also impressing. If we can get the injured boys back in the squad, then it really is an exciting time to be an Imps fan, however far we have to travel in the FA Cup.
