3 – Steve Torpey
I know, this is maybe harsh as we got Steve Torpey towards the end of his career, but there’s no doubt he was a big disappointment in terms of goals. He had made his name with Swansea, hitting double figures four years in the mid-nineties, totalling 56 goals in 199 outings. One every four games might not be prolific as such, but it proved he could score, regularly. He proved that again with five great seasons for Scunthorpe, all of which he reached double digits. The warning signs were there for us though – he hit three in two seasons before the move to us.
He certainly suffered for coming into a team on the slide, but he was a player on the slide on the match was not made in heaven. He played 14 times for us, without scoring or looking like scoring, before leaving for Farsley Celtic.
