The Man in the Middle – Northampton

The Imps travel to Sixfields this weekend hoping to shrug off the effects of back-to-back defeats, to nil, at home.

We hit the road still 4th in the table and perhaps smarting from the performance of Craig Hicks, who denied us two stonewall penalties (verified by Shrews fans) as well as letting lots of quite nasty challenges go, for both sides. Another referee, on another day, would have flashed a red and given us two spot-kicks. still, that’s football for you, right?

Are we in any danger of another poor performance by an official this weekend? The line up for the officiating is as follows:

Assistants – Nicholas Cooper and Bradley Hall
Fourth Official – Michael Chard

Lewis is a referee we have had before, either side of our stint in the National League. he first officiated one of our games in 2005/06, a 3-2 win at Stockport in which a young Lee Frecklington scored his first league goal. Yup, this is an experienced official. Since then he has watched over clashed with Macclesfield (2007), Chesterfield (2011), Carlisle and Port Vale (2018) and Manchester United Under 21s last year.

He has only once dismissed a player in a game featuring Lincoln, with Mike Jones getting his marching orders as we beat Carlisle 1-0 over Easter in 2018.
