Imps Prospect Set For Chelsea Trial Spell

It seems young Sean Roughan is really catching the eye, with Chelsea the latest to be linked with a move for him.

Earlier this month, the 17-year-old spent time on trial with Southampton, and with the Saints yet to make a move, it seems Chelsea are now having a serious look. This all bodes well for me by the way, I have a signed pair of his boots!

Seriously though, whilst he didn’t feature as much for the first team as he might have liked, there’s little doubt he has a big future ahead of him. he didn’t look out of place during his stint in the first team and his outings for the Under 18s have been mature and composed. He’s definitely a big talent and the level of club watching him is a testament to that.

The 42 reports that Roughan is set to have a week-long trial with the Blues ahead of their final Premier League games of the season, and is likely to feature for their Under 23 side. That will give Technical Mentor Claude Makélélé a chance to cast his eye over Roughan, although it is more likely to be Andy Myers, the development squad manager at Stamford Bridge, who has a look. Either way, it is something that reflects well on our club’s setup and recruitment.

The young Irish defender is seen as an exciting prospect, having started the season in the first team. He made 11 starts for City, six in the league, but disappeared from view as the season progressed. That hasn’t stopped him helping the Under 18s to the FA Cup 4th Round, and there was a deep belief he would be around the first team next season, having signed a professional deal at the age of 16 last summer.

In response to his trial at Southampton, Michael Appleton said: “It was an opportunity for them to have a look at Sean. They’ve shown an interest for a while now. We were more than happy for that to happen. He’s our player until someone makes an offer, it’s as simple as that.”

We wait with baited breath to see if the £750,000 we received for Jack Hobbs is to be beaten for another young defender, but with interest heating up it does look unlikely that we’ll see him in a City shirt again.
