The EFL League Once 21/22 season was a tough one for Lincoln City.

Coming off of the fifth place finish in the 20/21 season, many people were expecting The Imps to fight for promotion again, or possibly even the title! However, things didn’t go quite as planned for Lincoln, as they ended up 17th, narrowly avoiding relegation.

Despite the poor season, Lincoln had a strong squad and had some particularly high-valued players. Let’s take a look at their highest valued players of the 21/22 season according to Transfermrkt.

Dan N’Lundulu 

The highest valued player on Lincoln’s team for last season was Dan N’Lundulu, currently valued at £1.08 million. The 23-year-old joined the club on loan from Southampton at the beginning of July, with the initial loan agreement set to keep him at the club until January. On the 5th of January 2022, N’Lundulu returned to Southampton before joining Cheltenham on loan for the rest of the season.  

Morgan Whittaker 

Next on the list is another loanee, Morgan Whittaker. The 21-year-old winger was on loan from Swansea, joining Lincoln City on the 1st of January 2022 before leaving the club on May 31st. Whittaker put in some impressive performances during his time at the club, scoring five goals with one assist in twenty games. The 21-year-old is currently valued at £900,000, and if he keeps putting in performances like the ones he did for Lincoln, we’re sure that his value will continue to increase over time. 

Liam Bridcutt 

The first player on our list contracted to Lincoln full-time, the 33-year-old defensive midfielder has had quite a past, playing for the Chelsea Reserves, Brighton, Watford, and many others in his time. However, Bridcutt missed the majority of last season due to a knee injury and only made 15 appearances for the team. Valued at £720,000 at the time of writing, he seems like a big loss for the current season.

Teddy Bishop 

Teddy Bishop was arguably one of Lincoln’s strongest players in the 21/22 season. When allowed to run the game from the centre of the midfield, he scored a total of 4 goals and 5 assists in his 36 appearances. Lincoln fans will be hoping that they see more of the talented 26-year-old next season, as his form was one of the few shining lights in an otherwise drab season. The question is whether it’s worth taking a chance on him for next year or cash in on him now. Tayo Edun 

Rounding out the list is the 24-year-old left-back, Tayo Edun. While technically registered for the 21/22 season, Tayo only played four games for Lincoln City before being transferred to Blackburn Rovers. He was sold to the Championship club on transfer deadline day – 31st of August 2022 – for a fee of £550,000. Tayo featured heavily for Lincoln during the storming 20/21 season, where we reached the top five, scoring two goals and providing seven assists in his 53 games for the club. With performances like that, it’s no wonder he caught the eye of a higher league team! 

Conclusion 

Despite having such valuable players in their team, Lincoln City were only just able to scrape their way to survival. With a team built on so many loans, it can be hard to keep together a winning formula. Fans of The Imps will be hoping that this year will be more like their 20/21 season, where they were challenging for promotion, but only time will tell what the season will bring!
