Imps Closing In On New Signing

Mark Kennedy has confirmed the club are confident that they will have a new face in the squad by the time we make the trip to MK Dons this weekend.

After two below-par performances against Charlton and Accrington, we looked desperately short in key areas, and already two have gone this winter, and only one arrived. Harry Boyes came in on loan, with Jordon Garrick returning to his parent club, only to be signed by Forest Green. Jamie Robson also joined Forest Green, meaning we’re one body light compared to the turn of the year. With Matty Virtue’s injury and Ben House and Sean Roughan missing the last two matches, the squad looks and feels a little threadbare.

That looks set to change, with Mark confirming to BBC Radio Lincolnshire that he is confident of a new face being in by the weekend’s fixture. “I’m leaving you to go into a recruitment meeting, and we’re confident we’ll have someone in for this weekend, and we’re hopeful and confident we’ll have someone in further down the line,” he said. “But, for this weekend, we’re hopeful and confident we’ll have someone with us.”

If we were to have someone in and available by the weekend, he would need to have signed for the club before lunchtime tomorrow, although we wouldn’t necessarily get an announcement at that time. There are few clues to the identity of the new face, but we need cover in a number of areas. We certainly look light up top with just Tom Hopper fit for the last two matches and in midfield, given Virtue’s long-term absence. With Garrick going back and Mandroiu looking comfortable in the middle, we could do with a player out wide, especially if rumours of Charles Vernam’s loan to Grimsby are accurate.

Imps fans will now spend the next 24 hours or so constantly refreshing their social media feed, visiting our homepage (hopefully) and looking for clues as to who might be coming in. Fingers crossed it is a player to put a smile on fans’ faces after a challenging start to 2023.
