Former Imp Bags International Management Chance

Former Lincoln City academy player Charlie Trout has been named the new manager of Puerto Rico

Former Leeds prospect Trout was on the Imps’ book in the early part of the century and was handed a squad number in 2003/04, number 32. Whilst with the Imps he began coaching the younger age group,s which fired a lifelong passion for coaching.

He didn’t make a senior appearance for the Imps, and later played for Gainsborough Trinity, amongst others, before moving over to the States at the age of 22. He continued his passion for coaching, working with Chicago United FC before stepping up to the MLS Chicago Fire Academy. He later coached at FC United DA at every level from U12 to U23.

That has now led him to international management, something he is incredibly proud of.

“It is an honor and privilege to lead the Puerto Rico national team,” said Trout. “I feel it is an exciting time to be a Puerto Rican football fan. We have a talented generation of players with more coming through the youth ranks.”

“We want to continue the great strides this team and federation have made in recent years but now take it to the next level. Personally, it is a challenge and test that I could not be more motivated by.”

Puerto Rico are ranked 170th in the FIFA rankings, but their highest placing ever was 97th. They’re currently ranked higher than European sides such as Liechtenstein, Moldova, and San Marino and are just three places below Malta after beating the British Virgin Islands 3-1 this week. That result left them top of the CONCACAF Nations League C Group.

We love a story like this at The Stacey West and wish Charlie all the best in his new role.
