The Imps’ 21-year-old defender Jay Ben. has appeared to confirm his time in Ireland is at an end.
Benn joined Bohemians in February, following Freddie Draper and Elicha Ahiu over to Ireland. They’ve earned rave reviews for their performances, but our young full-back has not been as fortunate in terms of first-team appearances. He’s started seven matches for Bohs, who are fourth in the league after 19 matches. He’s made one further appearance as a sub and has recently regained his place in the first team, appearing last Friday against Sligo, only his second full 90 minutes, and this Monday against Cork City.
Bohs travel to Derry this evening for their final game before the two-week summer break, which is the time for players to be recalled, and it seems Benn is on his way back to Sincil Bank. In an Instagram post, he seemingly confirmed his return by posting himself in their iconic kit with the caption, “It was an absolute pleasure”

Benn joined the Imps from Halifax Town last summer and made 12 appearances for the West Yorkshire side after coming through the youth system at The Shay and operates primarily as a right back. He has been seen just once in a City shirt, as we turned over Barnsley 3-0 at their place in the Papa John’s Trophy. In that game, an altercation with Benn saw James Norwood sent off, which further swung the tie in our favour.
It is unclear whether he has been recalled or sent back, but either way, expect to see him involved in some of the pre-season fixtures, which kick off against Stockport County in Spain next month.
