The Imps have continued building their squad for the 2023/24 season with the permanent addition of attacking wing-back Jaden Brown, who joins the team in Spain for the training camp.

The left-footed wing-back has agreed a two-year contract at Sincil Bank and, as is standard these days, is reported to have done so ahead of competition from several other League One clubs.

24-year-old Brown is a former England youth international and teammate of TJ Eyoma at Spurs. He has also represented Huddersfield Town, for whom he played 28 Championship matches, and Sheffield Wednesday, helping the Owls seal promotion from League One last season. Interestingly, he made his Owls debut by replacing Mide Shodipo in a game against Huddersfield.

He said: “I’m excited to be here. I want to come here and make an impact – it’s all about getting minutes at this stage in my career.”

Brown is a wing-back, but he can also operate at left centre-back. However, from his interview, it sounds as though the left wing-back position is the one he’s targetting.

“The players in that role who have been here over the past few years have done well and pushed onto the Championship; I’m here to elevate my game in the same way. I like to chip in with goals and assists. I’m very attacking and always looking to get on the front foot.”

Brown managed two goals and three assists for the Owls last season, despite only appearing fifteen times after falling out of favour. That included a goal and an assist against Rochdale in the League Cup, a winning goal against Peterborough in the league, and an assist for a winner away at Charlton. He was booked and subbed against Pompey after those back-to-back matches, before being dropped for the next five games – five games his team failed to win.

Head coach Mark Kennedy added: “Jaden has all the attributes that we have been looking for in this position. He is quick, powerful, aggressive and will give us another dimension going forward, as Lasse did towards the end of last season on the opposite side of the pitch.

“Jaden is a great age; he is quick and athletic and will be a good addition – and it is great that we have secured his signature in time for him to join us on our pre-season training camp.”

Brown joins Alistair Smith, Reeco Hackett and Lukas Jensen as the club’s permanent signings in a relatively busy summer so far.
