As you already know, the Imps’ trip to Leyton Orient last night was abandoned after 84 minutes due to a medical emergency in the crowd.
There will now be a short period of uncertainty as the EFL makes a decision on how to progress, with the game set to either be replayed or the result allowed to stand, with Orient leading from Joe Pigott’s early strike.
I won’t be doing a match report on the game, as it feels crass to focus on the outcome of a football match that may not stand, or indeed matter when a person’s life hung in the balance. It also feels wrong to be making sweeping generalisations about how the situation should and should not be handled when events are still fresh and the timelines and regulations seemingly unclear. Only one thing matters – the person involved.
At this stage, there is no indication of the person’s condition, but everyone at the Stacey West sends best wishes to them, their family and friends, and everyone at Leyton Orient directly affected by last night’s events.
