Four players have left the club today as the January reshape begins in earnest.
Mide Shodipo ends his second stint with the Imps, whilst Blackburn’s Jack Vale also leaves as part of the club’s initial January transfer window activity. In addition, Morgan Worsfold-Gregg leaves the Imps to pursue further education at a university in America, and Julian Donnery departs following the expiry of his two-year scholarship.
Mide Shodipo
Some may feel the wide player is a little hard done by, only getting 129 minutes of League One action since joining on a short-term contract. Shodipo returned to Lincolnshire on a short-term contract in October, featuring nine times and scoring once – the equalising goal against Port Vale in Tom Shaw’s final game in charge.
In total, the former QPR man appeared 29 times over two seasons, with three goals and two assists.
Jack Vale
It’s perhaps fair to say that Jack Vale’s loan spell is comparable with Liam Cullen and Luke Plange – underwhelming after a big build-up. However, whilst Cullen has gone on to do well in the Championship, there’s little evidence that Vale will do the same.
Vale made 17 competitive appearances for City, with 500 League One minutes under his belt. He scored twice after joining on loan from Blackburn Rovers at the end of the summer transfer window, once in the league and once in the EFL Trophy. His two goals came from his only two shots at goal in a Lincoln shirt, and perhaps leaves as the only player ever to have 100% accuracy!
None of the departures are a huge surprise – Donnery and Worsfold-Gregg never looked like challenging for a first-team spot, and whilst Shodipo did have something to offer in the eyes of supporters, it has been apparent for some time that he wasn’t going to stay beyond his current deal.
As for Vale, his profile never really seemed like a good fit for the Imps, but he was signed as a third striker to House and Walker, only for them to both get injured almost immediately. Sadly, he never showed any indication that he would be a force for us, nor that his style of play was suited to our needs.
What I would say is both are decent players, and both could find a career in League One, with the right club.
