Imps Duo To Remain Until End of Season

The Imps loan duo, Alex Mitchell and Jack Burroughs, will remain with the club until the end of the season.

The pair, on loan from Millwall and Coventry, respectively, could have been recalled in this window, but only during a specific period. That period has now elapsed, meaning the pair will wear red and white until the end of the season.

Burroughs, who can play either wing back or in midfield, has appeared 30 times this season. He’s widely regarded as a first team player, often preferred at left wing back over Jaden Brown and Sean Roughan. 23 of those appearances have been League One starts, and he has a single goal to his name, coming in the 2-0 victory against Notts County in the EFL Trophy.

Jack has previously been on loan at Gloucester City and Ross County. He appeared 17 times for the latter in the Scottish Premier League, and he’s also been capped by Scotland up to Under 21 level.

22-year-old Mitchell is on loan from London outfit Millwall, and he too has previously appeared in Scotland. He was on loan at St Johnstone last season and famously scored a goal against Celtic, a last-minute equaliser, only for Celtic to go up the other end and score again.

Despite us having a good complement of central defenders, Mitchell has 16 EFL starts. He’s been named Player of the Month by Stacey West readers three months on the spin (shared in December), which is a record, and there’s no doubt he’s been a big asset. He, too, has a single goal, away at Fleetwood, but he saw one ruled out against West Ham, one that would surely have meant a lot, given his Millwall connections.

It’s refreshing to be in this position with loan players. You look at the likes of Port Vale, who have had two key players recalled and now need to replace, and it underlines why owning our players was a wise approach in the summer.
