We’re now on the final straight, so to speak. After a drunken night in Lincoln led to the four of us entering the 10k, it’s now getting real.
This is a bit of an update; the first is a big one. Our running (!) total is now up to £1260, topped up by a nice chunk from the sales of shirts. That is enough of a win without us stepping onto the road, but we do have to step onto the road!
I’ve had a chat with the team (and with myself) to give you an idea of where we are in our preparation. Remember, you can still sponsor us on the link below, and help the Foundation in the meantime.

Gary (unprepared)
I’ve gone into the last two 10k runs feeling like I can do it, but after a challenging month, it’s coming a bit too quickly for my liking. Having the honeymoon, Easter, and a stag weekend in the space of three weeks has meant running takes a backseat, and tonight’s 5km was as slow as some of my early ones two years ago.
I know the aim is to finish, and if the four of us do it as a team, then we’ll have won, but I want to beat myself. I want to better myself, but I don’t think I’m going to. It’s the most unprepared I’ve felt for such a challenge, but I’m sure on the day I’ll drop under the hour, and that will (just about) be enough for me.
Charlie (upbeat)
With less than a week to go, I’m starting to realise just how tough Sunday will be, but I’m also looking forward to it now, weirdly. Training over the last couple of weeks hasn’t been as consistent due to a little injury I suffered playing football (take the boy out of Lincoln but not Lincoln out of the boy.)
I’m not in as good a shape as I wanted to be when I first agreed to this, but I’m not going to simply do this and then give up; instead, I’m going to use this as a springboard to better fitness.
I’m running alongside Ben because I need a guide, so I’m looking forward to us both supporting each other through it. This has been tough but rewarding so far. Long may it continue.
Chris (determined)
To be brutally honest, my training has been an emotional rollercoaster. It all started positively enough, building from 3km to 10km in the space of a few weeks. Of course, I was delighted with the progress, but since then, I’ve had a heavy illness and a recurring knee injury that has stopped me from getting out and training.
My goal was always simply to finish the race, and that is still the case. I may have to accept that it’s likely going to have to be a little slower than predicted, but I’m determined to complete the challenge.
Ben (proud)
Well, we’re a week away and I’m not as ready as I hoped I’d be. I’m absolutely dreading Sunday if I’m honest. I wanted to show that I could do this and push myself to be able to actually run the thing, but my journey’s been anything but straightforward. I’ve trained harder for this than anything I’ve ever done in my life, and worked my way up from being unable to jog down the road to successfully managing well over half an hour of constant running.
I’ve taken this really seriously, from buying proper running shoes to having sports massages and physio to try and get myself to the point of completing the run. Even if I end up having to walk the majority next week, I’m proud of dragging myself up to the point I’m even considering it. Hopefully, we can raise as much money as possible for the Foundation, and I’ll see you at the finish line.
