Clive Nates Burns Fake News Rumours

I woke up this morning to a WhatsApp from a friend (who I won’t name) saying Lukas Jensen was leaving the club.

Without sounding harsh to said friend, who will know who he is, I tried not to engage. We all hear things at this time of the year, and the trained ear usually picks up what is worth listening to, and what isn’t. Over the last couple of years, very little has leaked from the club, and it is far less likely that a friend of a friend in Lincoln knows what is happening.

It does make it a bit harder for the likes of me, wanting to discuss rumours, but I have always made it my goal not to publish anything that isn’t from a decent source. By decent, I mean either given to me directly by someone at the club (which I wouldn’t post out of respect) or from a notable journalist. I’d say ‘reputable’, but Alan Nixon is one who I’ll publish, despite him working for The Sun (and him blocking me on Twitter), which makes him notable, but not reputable.

The Jensen rumours continued through the day. One person who will not mind being named, Nick Oxberry, messaged me with his usual fear-laden message when stuff like this does the rounds. I like to think I’m a balance in Nick’s life, and I pointed out I didn’t believe the rumours one bit. I even went out on a limb and did a TikTok on my evening dog walk, saying as much.

At that point, I hoped I hadn’t misread the room.

@thestaceywest My thoughts on in Lukas Jensen to #rotherhamunited rumours. Don’t panic just yet 😂 #lincolncity ♬ original sound – The Stacey West

I do find this time of the year annoying, to be honest. So-called ex-agents are popping up everywhere, accounts no older than a few months old pushing rumours and repeating lies. I’ve been championing common sense for many years, and I genuinely despair when someone sends me a tweet from an account like ‘EFL News Hub’ or ‘ex-agent 16’ asking what I know. My response, almost always, is that I know the account isn’t worth discussing. I hide my anger.

Clive has not hidden his anger this evening. He’s directly addressed the rumours online, both on the Vital Lincoln City forum, and on Twitter. He feels angry that they’re doing the rounds, even getting people discussing them as if it’s a bona fide news story. Clive has emphatically put these rumours in the box and filed them in a black bin bag. We can now move on to the next rumour doing the round, which will probably be tomorrow.

I’m just happy that the WhatsApp messages might stop now.
