City will look to end their dismal run of form tomorrow as they welcome Stevenage to Sincil Bank.
Stevenage Form
Currently 14th in the table, Stevenage are playing their second season in League One after automatic promotion in 22/23. Boro quickly adapted to life in the third tier, as throughout the first two-thirds of the season, Stevenage were fighting in and around the playoffs. Their rise throughout the leagues was spearheaded by infamous manager Steve Evans, who made them very hard to beat. Many teams didn’t look forward to going to the Lamex, as Stevenage were the side that dictated the play and flow of the game. Boro only lost five matches in their home ground, and four were to teams who were below them before a ball was kicked.
Coming into this campaign, Stevenage were without manager Steve Evans, who jumped ship to Rotherham just before the penultimate matchday of the 2023/24 season. The person that the board felt was best tailored to keep Stevenage’s progression going was actually already at the club. Alex Revell became Stevenage’s head coach for the second time in his career, but this time, the club was in League One.
Stevenage kicked off their season with a 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town, before picking up one point from six on their travels to Huddersfield and Burton. Boro returned home to face the Imps, but were edged out 1-0 in a tight affair at the Lamex. It was a fairly successful next six fixtures, as Stevenage picked up three wins against Barnsley, Charlton and Wrexham, all at the Lamex, and gained a solid point away from home against Wigan.
However, Boro soon hit a rough patch, only picking up four points from the next 24 available, losing to the likes of Bolton, Rotherham and Cambridge along the way. Recently though, they have regained some good form, triumphing over Northampton, Stockport and Bristol Rovers all within the past month. In their previous fixture, they had a scoreless draw at Northampton Town, meaning they will come into tomorrow’s fixture at Sincil Bank with only one loss in eight games.
Stevenage Tactics
Even though Evans has been and gone, Stevenage still operate in a way as if the round figure never left. Carl Piergianni, who got Paudie sent off in the previous fixture, is still as bullish as ever, Louis Thompson has remained a vital presence for Boro in midfield, but Northern Ireland international Jamie Reid hasn’t regained the goalscoring form he was in last season. Revell sets up slightly differently to Evans, in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Dan Kemp, Elliot List, Jordan Roberts slotting in-behind Reid.
Jake Forster Casey is likely to watch from the sidelines tomorrow, as he is doubtful to make the squad following picking up a knock in Stevenage’s game against Wycombe. Lewis Freestone and Harvey White are both at risk to miss out on Boro’s home game against rock bottom Burton Albion, after picking up four yellows this season.
Previous Meetings
City have lost just one of their last seven Football League games against Stevenage, keeping four clean sheets during that time. After Stevenage’s first Football League visit to Sincil Bank in September 2010, Lincoln has been unbeaten across our last three home Football League games against them.
The Imps failed to score against Stevenage in the 23/24 campaign, only picking up one point from the two fixtures. City played Boro at the Lamex in the fourth game of the season this term, with a Jack Moylan penalty being the difference as Lincoln came away with a 1-0 victory.
