City secured a solid point on the road at promotion hopefuls Bradford City last night, but could well have snatched all three.
As usual, we started strongly, and as Michael Skubala told John Helm after the game, for the first 25 minutes or so, we were the better team.
“Tonight, the first half we were great,” he said in an interview on the club’s YouTube channel. “We came out like a house on fire. We were the better team. They had to change shape because they couldn’t cope with us.
“Then they got a little bit, then it went even a little bit. But I thought it was a great performance and a really good point. It’s a tough place to come, we know that.

“But yeah, we’re in a way a little bit disappointed because we think we had a couple of chances, maybe a penalty at the end. But I thought in the end, probably a point’s fair. I thought they were a little bit better last ten or fifteen than us and we had to soak it up in the last fifteen, evens before that in the second half.”
The topsy-turvy balance of the game led to it being an engrossing encounter with plenty to keep people happy. One bright spark for the Imps was Coventry City loanee Justin Obikwu, who started up top and put in an eyecacthing performance
“Justin Obikwu up there was very good for his first start this season, he looks electric. I thought George made a big save at the end. So we needed to have big moments, but I thought we created some big chances in the first half, a couple I still remember that we haven’t hit the target with. So we’ve got to keep working on that. But when we come out like that first half, you know, if we go in one-nil, it’s a different game.
“At half-time they had to change, they brought the big Andy Cook on and went more direct and it caused us a few problems. But I thought even then we had a couple of moments in the second half where we could have nicked something. I think maybe Justin got an air shot on one of them.
“But all in all, I think it’s probably an even result for both teams. To get a point here on the road, and how well they’ve done with teams coming here, I don’t think they’ll be happy with the point, but I think we’ll be happy with the point.
That feels like a fair assessment. They had big chances at the end of the game, and could easily have done an Exeter on us, weathering the storm before stealing the points.
Focus will now switch to our first competitive fixture against Salford City in the FA Cup First Round this weekend.
