Glentoran midfielder Cammy Palmer has been singing the praises of MJ Kamara, who played a full 90 minutes for the Irish side this week.

The Belfast outfit secured a quarter-final place in the Irish League Cup this week, beating Crusaders 2-1. They led early and never looked like losing, despite the late consolation.

Kamara got a full run out, as he has in cup competitions, but he is still struggling for NIFL minutes. He scored in the County Antrim Senior Shield defeat against Carrick Rangers and has appeared twice in the League Cup.

His latest appearance drew praise from Palmer, a former Glasgow Rangers player and Northern Ireland Under-21 international.

Discussing the competition in the team, he said after the Crusaders cup victory:

“No one wants to be sitting on the bench. It shows the mentality of the boys who came into the side. It also means that the guys who were in the team know there is something there, ready to take their place.

“Christie (Pattisson) came in: MJ (Kamara) and (Ciaran) Coll were super at the back. Billy (Crellin) in his first start was brilliant. It’s just a shame we couldn’t keep a clean sheet.

“That’s what we need if we’re going to win cups.”

MJ joined the Imps from Bromley, signing his first pro deal in February 2023. He’s since enjoyed spells with Barwell and Peterborough Sports, but has found senior minutes hard to come by at The Oval.
