Portsmouth are reported by the Daily Record to be keen on Motherwell midfielder Liam Polworth, who has helped his side to third place in the SPFL.

Pompey already have a loan player from Scotland, Rangers man Ross McCrorie, but they’re now on the trail of the 25-year-old who has been in excellent form for the Steelmen.

He’s grabbed three assists in his 12 matches for Motherwell after a summer move from Inverness Caledonian Thistle, his hometown club. As a youngster, Polworth played for Scotland at Under 16, 17 and Under 21 level, racking up 210 appearances for Caley before his move.

Last season, Alan Power drove Kilmarnock to third in the SPFL and yet wasn’t deemed good enough to play for Lincoln City in League Two. Shame, as I think he’d do a decent job in our midfield now, along with the other seven players we have for two positions.

For some reason, and I don’t know why, but I have a decent knowledge of the Coventry City Under 23 side. David Bremang is a player I think will have a decent future, but it’s his teammate Will Bapaga who has been given his first professional contract.

He’s forced his way into the first team reckoning over the past few months, making his debut for Mark Robins’s men earlier this season against Bolton Wanderers. He’s added two more outings to those, including a start against Forest Green Rovers in the EFL Trophy.

He turned 17 last weekend and has signed a deal until the summer of 2020. Now, we just need Bremang to come through and make my tip into a good one, otherwise it’ll be like that season I saw Yeo and Cropper start for Lincoln, the one where I tipped Cropper for greatness.

Credit (begrudgingly) where it is due; Peterborough have a great nose for lower league talent. Sometimes, they’ll grab a real bargain (Jack Marriott, Marcus Maddison) whereas other times it doesn’t quite come off (Alex Woodyard, George Cooper). They’ve apparently found the next player for their money-men to target; Cheltenham’s Ryan Broom.

Broom has been in great form for the Robins as they’ve made a surprising start to their League Two season. He’s already scored six times from midfielder and added four assists.

Cheltenham are up to sixth in the table and Broom has been a key part of that success. He came through the ranks at Bristol Rovers but was unable to establish himself as a first-team player there.

He might now get the chance to try his hand at League One football as Peterborough have the spending power to tempt Cheltenham with a decent bid.

  1. ‘That season I saw Yeo and Cropper start for Lincoln, the one where I tipped Cropper for greatness’.

Reminds me of the time when Steve Williams and Darren Huckerby were just breaking through into the first team and I rated Williams as the better prospect of the two.

    • Malcolm.. I remember saying the same about Williams and Huckerby after watching us at Doncaster.
My Dad said “Huckerby is better, and stronger”
