Imagine the scene. City are at Blunder Park, having not won there in almost 30 years. Simon Yeo bags a brace to put us 2-0 up, but the Cods fight back, netting twice on 50 and 59 minutes.
Within 60 seconds, Yeo grabs his hat trick, kills their resolve, and City win 4-2. Perhaps the most famous City hat trick of all time?
Lee Thorpe v Morecambe 28/11/2000
This is perhaps the weirdest hat trick, as it came in the EFL Trophy when non-league clubs were let in. Not only that, but City played a strong side (Thorpe, Gain, Grant Brown, Holmes, Battersby, Bimson, Barnett and more) and still laboured to a 3-2 win. City went 1-0 up, then 201 down, but Thorpe’s brace gave us a 3-2 win.
It was also a big night for Grant Brown, as he broke Tony Emery’s appearance record.
