I doubt there’s many hat tricks on this list that were all set pieces, but this one was. Mind you, it was a bit of a gimme, as Anthony Howell, an outfield player, was in goal for our opponents. They only had 11 fit players and we took full advantage.
Newton hit two free kicks and a penalty as we brushed them aside after a 1-1 draw in the first game.
Ben Tomlinson v Halifax Town 01/02/14
Ben Tomlinson was a hugely underrated figure for City, often seemingly played out of position but never letting us down for effort.
He bagged three as we secured a 3-1 win against a decent Halifax side featuring the likes of Lee Gregory and Matty Pearson.
