City Snare Jamaican International With Minutes Left In Window

City have signed defender Dexter Lembikisa from Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan until January, the final moves of a frantic deadline day.

Despite his tender age, the 21-year-old right-back already has experience playing in the Sky Bet Championship, Sky Bet League One and the Scottish Premiership.

Lembikisa has risen through Wolves’ academy ranks since the age of 13, making his senior debut for the Premier League side in 2022. Since then, he has gained valuable experience with a series of loan moves. His first came at Rotherham United in the Championship, where he scored his maiden senior goal against Norwich City. A stint in Scotland followed with Heart of Midlothian, where he made an instant impression by netting on his debut in a 3–2 win over Dundee.

After a short spell in Switzerland with Yverdon-Sport, Lembikisa returned to England to join Barnsley in February 2025, featuring regularly during the second half of the League One campaign. His next challenge is with the Imps, who will be hoping his attacking drive from full-back helps strengthen their promotion ambitions.

On the international stage, Lembikisa has already earned close to 30 caps for Jamaica, featuring at the 2023 Gold Cup where he registered an assist in a 4–1 win over Trinidad and Tobago.

Although right-back is his natural home, the 21-year-old has featured at left-back, wing-back on both sides, in defensive midfield and even further forward as a winger. That flexibility brought him game time with Barnsley in League One, minutes in the Swiss Super League with Yverdon Sport, and regular call-ups for Jamaica in 2024/25.

Across roughly 1,400 minutes of senior football, the statistics highlight what he brings. Lembikisa engages in more than seven defensive duels per game and wins a superb 72% of them, proving difficult to beat in one-v-one situations. Aerially, he is less dominant, taking just under half of his duels in the air, but his ground work is strong, with more than half of loose ball challenges recovered.

He also reads danger well, averaging three-and-a-half interceptions per ninety minutes. Perhaps most striking is his contribution higher up the field: almost nine recoveries in the opposition half per game show a front-foot defender willing to press and win the ball back early.

Discipline is another positive. Lembikisa rarely fouls, averages fewer than half a foul per match, and has not collected a single card across all competitions. For a player who contests so many duels, that restraint is impressive.

All told, the numbers paint a picture of a versatile and reliable defender, still developing, but already showing the qualities to make an impact wherever he plays.
