Michael Duff has admitted he is still learning names at Wycombe Wanderers, despite making an immediate impression.
The former Huddersfield Town boss has only been in the role for a week, but back-to-back 2–0 victories over Northampton Town and Wigan Athletic have already lifted spirits at Adams Park.
Duff admitted he is still learning his players’ names but insists rotation is key. “I’ve managed to have a look at 26 players. If we’d got beat [at Wigan] people would have said, ‘Why have you changed 11?’ but I’m trying to give everyone a go. There’s quite a deep squad here,” he told BBC Three Counties Radio.
Goals from Caolan Boyd-Munce, his first for the club, and Donnell McNeilly sealed progress into the Carabao Cup last 16 for the first time since 2006–07.
Duff is clear he will not be ripping up the blueprint. “We’ve tweaked a couple of things but there’s some good players in there… add a little bit to that rather than rip it up and start again,” he said.
His philosophy remains incremental: “That’s four halves we’ve won… ‘Win the next half, win the next half’… That’s the way I work – just chunk it down constantly.”
