Plymouth Argyle boss Tom Cleverley is facing a two-match touchline ban after his red card at Luton Town.

The head coach was dismissed in the 72nd minute of his side’s 3–2 win earlier this month for dissent towards officials. He has accepted FA charges of improper conduct and using abusive or insulting words.

“Obviously, I should lead by example a little bit better,” said Cleverley. “It was a highly emotional game for myself, for the team. On the day I didn’t act like I should have done it and I apologised to the FA for that.”

Argyle had already endured a chaotic afternoon with two penalties conceded and captain Joe Edwards sent off.

Cleverley revealed he had spoken with EFL referees’ chief Mike Jones but vowed not to dwell on decisions. “I think the referees try their best… these things level themselves out, but there’s a lot of levelling out that needs to take place from now until the end of the season,” he said.

He was still on the touchline for the 1–0 defeat to Peterborough United but could be absent for the trips to Burton Albion and Wigan Athletic.
