League One is never short of storylines, and today we’ve got news that will delight City fans – one of our panto villains is struggling.

Let’s start there, shall we?

Lane’s Difficult Start at Reading

Paddy Lane’s summer move from Portsmouth to Reading was billed as an opportunity to build on his League One title success, but the winger’s early months have been challenging. The 24-year-old has scored just once in ten outings and drew attention at the weekend after missing a clear chance in the Royals’ 1–1 draw with Mansfield Town.

Lane was a popular figure at Fratton Park, but not at the Bank, where he celebrated a late goal with a ‘crying’ gesture to us after denying us a play-off spot. His struggles will doubtless delight City supporters! He missed a sitter against Mansfield from six yards, prompting Noel Hunt to defend him.

“Listen, we’ve all been there. I’ve been there myself, I’ve missed plenty of them,” said Hunt. “I just said to Paddy: ‘You’re closer to scoring now, get your mind set on that. It’s coming, it’s going to fall for you again.”

Don’t cry, Paddy, will you…..
