MacAnthony Backs Ferguson — Says Anyone Else “Would Have Been Long Gone”
Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has publicly backed Darren Ferguson to turn results around, while admitting that any other manager would already have been dismissed in the current circumstances. Speaking on his Hard Truth podcast, MacAnthony voiced frustration at Posh’s form and style during a “horrendous 2025,” acknowledging the side has been “bland” and inefficient “in both boxes.” Posh have won 2 of 11 league matches and sit bottom, with fixtures against Burton (21st) and Blackpool (23rd) looming after the international break.
MacAnthony said his long relationship with Ferguson, first appointed nearly 20 years ago, affords additional leeway, but stressed performance levels must improve quickly. He referenced internal disagreements over selections and roles, while relaying Ferguson’s assurance that work across the break will yield a visible shift in approach and results.
The owner also signalled a desire to see more attacking threat, even at the risk of high-scoring games, to re-energise supporters. With the dressing room described as “behind” the manager, the club is set to persist with Ferguson into a crucial block that MacAnthony believes the squad is capable of navigating, provided the promised changes take hold.
