Wellens Slams ‘Stiff’ Orient After Heavy Wycombe Defeat

Richie Wellens criticised Leyton Orient’s defending and intensity following a 4-1 loss at Wycombe Wanderers, calling the goals conceded among the worst seen nationwide that day.

Orient equalised through an Aaron Connolly penalty after falling behind early, but shipped two more before the interval and a fourth late on. The result leaves Orient hovering above the relegation places and on 27 league goals conceded.

“We were poor, really poor, from the start. You won’t see four worse goals given away around the country today. We lacked leadership in certain moments on the pitch. Defensively we were not at it in terms of shifting and sliding.”

Wellens added that his players “looked a little bit stiff” and could not press with their usual aggression. He did find a minor positive in minutes for Ollie O’Neill on his return from injury.

Orient now prepare for a key home test against Exeter City, one place above them, with defensive organisation and consistency under the microscope.
