Caldwell Accuses Wigan Of ‘Parking The Bus’ In St James Park Draw

Exeter City boss Gary Caldwell said Wigan Athletic “parked the bus” during a 1-1 draw at St James Park.

After doing just that against us and lauding his side’s approach, he’s now arguing that the visitors sat deep after leading at half-time and that his side were “outstanding” after the break. A bit hypocritical….

Callum Wright had put Wigan ahead from a quick Morgan Fox free-kick, before Jayden Wareham levelled. Caldwell felt his team created enough to win, while acknowledging a slow first half and individual errors. Full piece: Wigan Today.

“We knew they were going to sit in. In the second half we played with no fear, one-touch football, and cut a team open that played with that many men behind the ball. The players deserve credit, but we must get the second goal in those moments.”

Wigan still threatened late on, with Jason Kerr heading wide and a Christian Saydee effort ruled out for handball.

Caldwell’s focus now is on reproducing Exeter’s second-half tempo from the first whistle, emphasising quicker play, better decision-making, and clinical finishing to turn dominance into victories.
