Okay, the title was dramatic, and the content is probably much nerdier than it needs to be.
Given that we lost again in dark blue, and the perception we always seemed to lose in the black last season, I thought I’d waste my time tracking every kit we have worn on our travels, and then working out a win percentage for each kit.
Yeah, I need help.
That has given me the best and worst kits by points per game, and by cup exits. I think it’s interesting, but then that’s how my mind works! I have done the numbers from the start of the 2019/20 season, when we started having three kits. I’ve worked out a PPG, and cup exits, in the event of tie breaks, so you can see which kits have been the worst for us.
There are a couple of caveats, of course. Firstly, probably the worst kit we’ve had in terms of results is the Lincolnshire kit in 2019/20. It was cursed from the start – firstly, the club planned to wear it at home, against Peterborough, who play in blue. That went down like a cup of cold cat sick and was quickly reversed.

Then, we wore it away at Sunderland and lost 3-1. Before we could wear it again, likely against Tranmere Rovers in March, the season was ended by COVID. That was that, no more Lincolnshire kit. Shame, it was nice as well.
Also, this season’s blue kit, which is by far the worst performing, hasn’t been worn enough times to really be judged. We’ve worn it four times, losing to Rotherham and Orient, as well as getting knocked out of the cup. It averages 0.33 points per game, with a cup exit as well. Ouch.
Finally, our actual worst performing away kit is….. our home kit. Honestly, I didn’t even factor it in, but our home kit has been worn (my research is 95% guaranteed here) on 37 occasions since the summer of 2019. In that time we have twice been eliminated from cup competitions wearing it, against Plymouth and Chippenham notably, as well as against Shrewsbury on penalties.

With those three caveats out of the way, are you ready to discover our best and worst-performing kits since 2019?
