Lyons Returns To Lead Northampton Town Academy

Northampton Town have confirmed the appointment of Mark Lyons as the club’s academy manager, bringing him back to Sixfields after a successful spell in the Leicester City academy structure. Lyons previously worked for the Cobblers as lead youth development phase coach and lead professional development phase coach before moving to a category one set up with Leicester, where he has spent the last seven years.

“We are delighted to welcome Mark back to the club,” said chief executive James Whiting.

Whiting highlighted Lyons’ knowledge of Northampton, his understanding of local academy football and the strong network of contacts he has built during his time at Leicester, stressing that he will work closely with academy manager (operations) Julie Delauney to keep developing a productive pathway for young players. The returning coach spoke of his affection for the Cobblers and his enthusiasm for the role, referencing the club’s track record of producing players who have gone on to reach the top level.

“I am really happy to be returning to Northampton Town, a club that always has a special place in my heart,” Lyons said.

He added that he arrives full of drive, energy and determination, and is focused on turning as many academy prospects as possible into first-team footballers at Sixfields.
