Hello and welcome to the Stacey West’s live blog for transfer deadline day.
That’s right, a live blog! I don’t do these very often, but to save having to do a new article every time there’s a change, I’ll be updating here whenever anything happens.
Let’s get this show on the road, shall we?
5.36pm – Right, that is it for the live blog. If I were you I’d be glued to the screen for a bit yet though, you just never know.
If you’ve enjoyed this I might do another one sometime, maybe for a fans forum or something. Let me know what you think.
Cheers for tuning in
5.04pm – oh yeah, have me sat here all day and then it kicks off. Peter Vincenti, the Coventry winger, has signed a two-year deal with Macclesfield Town. He’s the tall guy with his head cut off in the picture, like yer Ma used to with the old instamatic back at Skeggy in the day.
Welcome to Macclesfield Town, Peter!!!!!https://t.co/tx9lUtKcVx

5.02pm – Here we go!!! The Imps have landed Heybridge Swift’s Spanish midfielder Joan Luque on a six-month loan deal after a successful trial. If a trial was classed as time spent on probation, he’d already be 17.5% of the way though his Imps career.
16.51pm
Give over…..

16.50pm – Tsun Dai has left bury and signed for Oxford United. The U’s have been busy as they’ve also take former Charlton man Ricky Holmes on loan from Sheffield united.

16.38pm – It’s one out at Forest Green, Isaiah Osbourne has signed for Walsall, a club he’s played at before. He joins them on a one year deal.
✍️ We are delighted to confirm the return of midfielder Isaiah Osbourne on a one-year deal!

16.31pm – They’re taking the piss, right?
All these signings going through today – you didn’t think that we would leave you out did you?
Our fabulous new signing will be unveiled at 17:00 ?
— Macclesfield Town (@thesilkmen) August 9, 2018
16.25pm – Make sure you don’t log off at 5pm, won’t you? Many deals won’t be ratified until into the evening. I can’t promise I’ll be live blogging by then though, there’s things to do and dinner to make.
16.07pm – It’s a deal and right now, that is what we’re all after, isn’t it?

15.56pm – Imagine clearing your diary, doing a live blog and the only deal you report on is some bloke getting sacked by Oldham and joining Reg and Co at Carlisle.
I am still told there’s deals likely at Sincil Bank. Simeon Akinola is riding his fax machine over here as we speak.
15.26pm – It turns out the club was wrong earlier, but Lee Angol is looking likely to make a move. He’s being linked with a move to Shrewsbury to replace the outgoing Stefan Payne.
15.19pm – FINALLY WE HAVE SOMETHING!
It’s not a deal, but The Sun’s live blog has reported that Bradford City have approached Mansfield about a last-minute deal for Danny Rose.
For clarity I don’t read the Sun, but you have to put links on rumours with News Now.
The 24-year-old smashed 14 goals in 39 games for the Stags last season. Peterborough United and Luton Town are also supposedly interested in a late deal for the forward.
15.12pm – I’ve just signed a deal to have my boiler serviced for £50 with a bloke called Eddie. Literally more interesting than the whole of football.
15.07pm – The Sun’s Alan Nixon seems to think most deals will be confirmed after 5pm. Yeah? Terrific. I’ve been sat here since 9am and now you tell me it’s all going to happen whilst I’m eating my bolognese? Cheers.
You might not be able to see his post below as he’s a protected account, but basically he’s saying I’ve wasted my day.
Like most days then.

14.47pm – I wondered who might be next, it’s Port Vale. Neil Aspin doesn’t envisage any new players on Deadline Day either.
14.40pm – Little over two hours left and nothing. Stevenage ruling themselves out of making any signings now too. There’s no presser this afternoon though, it’s tomorrow so maybe there’s a chink of light for City fans there.

14.27pm – It was on the internet was it? It must be true then.
Or not in this case. Internet pranksters at their best as Grimsby ‘announce’ new signing.
Cannot believe this! pic.twitter.com/kvABMu38Ei
— Edward Brett (@notorious_imp) August 9, 2018
14.10pm – I’m also hearing Lee Angol could be set for a League Two switch. He turned down Grimsby recently, wisely, but could be set to move to South wales with Newport County.
14.09pm – It’s going to warm up a bit now. Remember our former target, Stefan Payne? He’s the latest to bin off Shrewsbury. They could be a crisis club this season.
DONE DEAL: Bristol Rovers have signed Shrewsbury Town striker Stefan Payne for an undisclosed fee ?⚽️#BRFC #Salop pic.twitter.com/Ft17x9YGuh
— D3D4Football??????? (@d3d4football) August 9, 2018
13.49pm – Do you get the feeling there’s going to be very little happen today? First Notts County have nothing to do, now Exeter and Colchester are in on the act too. That’s three teams with no business to conduct. Who’s next? Lincoln City?
? Matt Taylor on transfer deadline day: “We did our business early on. We are still in the loan window so there is an opportunity for players still to come in and out of the club.”#ECFC

13.41pm – No Milk! Unreal. Deadline Day drama here at SW HQ. Heads will roll, I swear it. I’m putting in a transfer request to We are the Imps.
So, as I ‘enjoy’ a black tea, here’s a list of done deals in the Football League so far today.
Lukas Nmecha [Manchester City – Preston] Loan
Anthony Gerrard [Oldham – Carlisle] Free
Andy Mangan [Bala Town – Accrington] Free
Canice Carroll [Oxford – Brentford] Undisclosed
Kayden Jackson [Accrington – Ipswich] Undisclosed
Ollie Norburn [Tranmere – Shrewsbury] Undisclosed
Ivan Toney [Newcastle – Peterborough] Undisclosed
13.36pm – While I’m gone a quick Deadline Day poll for you. Which of the four players who left last summer would you have back right now, if you could? Tell me why in the comments section.
Now, where’s my PG Tips?
13.31pm – I’m off to get a sandwich and a brew, that should kick start the day a little.
If anything guarantees news it is me wandering off for a bit.
13.12pm – Carlisle haven’t signed him on loan then, he’s just been a naughty boy. I once got suspended for social media posts too. I called my boss a hunchback and a host of other things over a six-week period back in 2008. Someone printed my statuses off and sent them to her. I didn’t get sacked because it was personal opinion which she couldn’t dismiss me for, but because I’d posted one during a meeting with her I got a warning for wasting company time.
Anywaaaay…….

13.02pm – Why do people believe this sort of shit? What is an EFL insider anyway? An Ex-Agent? A secret kit man? A spotty kid in his bedroom with nothing better to do on a Thursday afternoon than post rubbish like this.
FYI the same account had Leeds hijacking the Toto Nsiala bid and Matt Green going to Bristol Rovers. It’s rubbish.
Lincoln City have received a £110k bid for Harry Anderson, the unnamed club is rumoured to be from league one. Will keep posted….. #lcfc pic.twitter.com/uDTQXOYGDd
— EFL (@EFL_insider_) August 9, 2018
13.01pm – Harry Kewell has signed this fella though. Not sure he’s going to be a success though, but I bet he can last 90 minutes which is more than you might say for their number nine.
SIGNING | We're delighted to announce that @scommsltd have extended their partnership with the club for 3 more years ???

12.59pm – There’s not going to be a great deal going on at Notts County this afternoon, apparently they’ve already spent their pocket money.
For those asking. Expecting it to be a quiet one at Meadow Lane today on #DeadlineDay. The club very happy with the business they’ve already completed this summer. pic.twitter.com/7bbTKXeQQI

12.39pm – Carlisle United have signed Anthony Gerrard from Oldham Athletic on a ‘half-season’ loan deal. He signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Oldham in January 2017 and made a total of 69 appearances for them.

12.12pm – Former Scunthorpe striker Paul Hayes has dropped into the non-league with Sudbury Town. The 35-year old was on the books of promoted Wycombe last season.
12.18pm – Remember this guy? I won’t ever forget him, diving for Tranmere’s equaliser against us in December 2016. he earned a big move to Bala Twon after that escapade, but he’s back in England with League One side Accrington Stanley.

11.53am – It’s not all about players today you know!
⏳Blocks 1-3 of the @BridgeMcFarland Stand will go on general sale at 7pm this evening.#ImpsAsOnehttps://t.co/BTzaKc9KqB
— Lincoln City FC (@LincolnCity_FC) August 9, 2018
11.34am – Crawley manager Harry Kewell has confirmed he’s looking to make one or two signings today, as well as possibly adding to his pack during the extended loan window too.
Kewell ahs had a decent summer brining in the likes of Romain Vincelot, as well as Ollie Palmer.
So small update club have ? for two deals today. Many of you have guessed/asked about one??
— Michael Hortin (@michaelhortin) August 9, 2018
11.11am – The club have TWO deals all ready to go today. Michael Hortin has confirmed as much, one is possibly Juan Luque, but the other is a mystery at present.
11.08am – DONE DEAL It’s not just us losing players thanks to Shrewsbury’s sale of Nsiala and Nolan. Tranmere player Oliver Norburn has joined the Shrews this morning, meaning our former National league rivals will also be on the hunt for a replacement today.
10.27am – Overnight, Bury have sold their exciting youngster Callum Styles. He’s gone to Barnsley, but he’s immediately been loaned back to the shakers. The deal is worth around £500,000 and earns the player a four-year contract.
10.09am – With little under seven hours left, there’s nothing happening in League Two right now. Sam Clucas looks set to swap Swansea for Stoke though, he’s at the Potters as we speak.
9.37am – Respected journalist Pete O’Rourke has suggested the Imps are close to securing a deal for Juan Luque. O’Rourke is a trusted source and usually he breaks news not long before it happens.
Joan Luque is on the verge of signing for Lincoln City from non-league Heybridge Swifts for an undisclosed fee. The 26 year old Barcelona academy product has impressed the Cowley’s during pre-season. #imps #DeadlineDay @SportingLifeFC
— Pete O'Rourke (@SportsPeteO) August 9, 2018
Alas no Imps return for Clucas. No emotional attachment getting the better of, well everything else.
What about that Maguire bloke. He looked alright. Not a trophy winner like Waterfall though ?
Who would be your pick as a CB signing to replace Waterfall?
No one
We have
Wharton
Wilson
Crookes
Bostwick
All able to fill his boots as a CB
I’d personally be looking at a young cm / cam
Like Jodi jones or Hiram Boateng who can
– comfortably take on players
– Shoot at long range
– support our strikers to help maximise their goal tally
I’ll tell you after 5pm!
I’d go with Bozzie at centre-back for now – whoever we may sign in today’s deadline day rush. Give Danny and Nicky time to sort out our squad and consider the options for the long season ahead. We don’t want a new lad trying to find his feet in what could turn out to be a vital game v Swindon.
Hi Geoffrey !
Bw Nick
I hope you didn’t use up a day of annual leave for this Gary!
Are you sure the Luque deal is a loan Gary?
Thanks for the blog Gary – kept my eye on it regularly throughout the day – very informative even though things were not happening very quickly on the transfer front you kept us all entertained!
