“Not too sure what is going on” – Imps defender discusses future

Imps defender Max Melbourne, currently on loan with Walsall, has said he is open to remaining in League Two next season as he is unsure ‘what is going on’ at Sincil Bank.

Max had a tough time earlier in the season, spending a period out injured, with Cohen Bramall since joining Tayo Edun and Sean Roughan as possible starting left-backs at the club. That leaves Melbourne down the pecking order, and with three League One quality centre backs also vying for a spot, the former West Brom man could find it tough going when he returns.

Or, should we say, if he returns. After six outings for the Saddlers, and a manager change, he is enjoying his time in the Black County and would be open to a permanent move, despite having a year left on his Imps deal.

“At the moment I’m still contracted as a Lincoln player and I’m not too sure what is going on with things at the moment,” he told the Express and Star. “It’s something that I would definitely be open to but I’m just looking forward to playing as many games as possible, whether that’s in a Lincoln shirt or a Walsall shirt.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here and settled in really well. Quite a few of the lads are out of contract so the club has to sit down and either sign new players or sort the contracts out.”

However, he also added that his focus was on getting games and coming back to Sincil Bank to see what the future holds.

“At the moment I’m contracted as a Lincoln player and my focus is on getting my games and in the summer I can review and see where I’m at. It’s great to be back playing again, every footballer wants to be playing as much football as they can.”

Max originally joined the Imps from West Brom on loan during Danny Cowley’s spell as manager but signed a two-and-a-half-year deal in Michael Appleton’s first transfer window. He made his Sincil Bank debut in Michael’s first home game in charge, against Manchester United U21s in our only normal time defeat against youth opposition in the EFL Trophy.

He has made 18 starts in total for City, nine in both of his seasons with the club, and emerged from the bench on a further nine occasions.
