Four Years On: Where Are Our National League Heroes Now?

Terry Hawkridge

Hawkridge started 24 league games for City in 2016/17, scoring three goals. One helped us to a vital 2-0 win against Dovers, whilst the other two are a little more famous. It was Hawkridge who pounced on Lee Angol’s saved shot to level the game four years ago, and it was Hawkridge who slid the winner in with 15 minutes of the game remaining. Whatever he did before, or after, he will always be remembered for that.

He left in the summer, heading off to hometown club Notts County. His first goal for County came in their 4-1 thrashing of us, for which he was applauded by some Lincoln fans. I didn’t go that far, but I rated Terry nonetheless. He was the talk of Nottingham in March 2018 when his goal helped the team to a draw against bitter rivals Mansfield Town, but the following year he played just four league matches before moving to Solihull Moors, whom he helped to the National League play-offs. Most recently he has been with Boston United, but their season has been curtailed and he hasn’t seen much action on the field.

Nathan Arnold

Nathan Arnold was something of a marquee signing that season, and he lived up to the hype. He played in 45 of the 46 league matches, scoring 12 times and finishing only behind Matt Rhead in the scoring charts. His most famous goals came in the FA Cup against Ipswich and in the late win against Gateshead, but a vital opener against Tranmere in December was perhaps equally as vital, if not memorable.

The following season he played 24 times without scoring, but was a part of the Imps team which stepped out against Wycombe. Nathan admitted to off-field struggles and found a purpose beyond football, helping mental health sufferers. He left City for Salford on loan after appearing as a late sub in our 2-2 draw with Notts County, and later had spells with Boston United and Altrincham. He is currently the manager of Bourne Town and looking forward to a resumption of football at that level.
