Four Years On: Where Are Our National League Heroes Now?

Anderson had two spells with us in the National League season, the first of which ran from August to December 17th. He bagged four goals during his first stint, one of which was a winner away at Wrexham. He went back to Peterborough at Christmas, but barely featured for them and was spotted in the crowd watching as we beat Brighton in the FA Cup. He appeared once for Posh, on March 11th against Michael Appleton’s Oxford, before rejoining City for the run-in. Goals against Chester and Torquay will be remembered forever, but the winger didn’t get on the field for the final game.

Not sure where he is now.

Marriott was a personal favourite of mine, a clever player in the Jamie Forrester mould who saw his season disrupted by injury. He had bagged three before the end of August and appeared to be our goal threat; he got the first of the season away at Woking, the winner at Macclesfield on Aug 27th and one two days later as we routed Gateshead 3-0. A shoulder injury then ruled him out for a couple of months and he struggled to catch back up. He did produce moments of magic from the bench, most notably against Tranmere to score and Ipswich to create, but all too often he was either a token gesture of a sub late on, or on the bench without kicking a ball as in the Macclesfield game.

He left the Imps in the summer, oddly opting to join Royston Town when there was a Lincoln contract on the table. It proved a top signing for them and he netted 31 goals in 43 appearances to earn a move to Boston. The Pilgrims will be kicking themselves because he barely got a chance there and was gone by October, joining Kings Lynn. His goals, 24 in total, saw them qualify for the play-offs, and three more in the end of season matches saw them promoted. The following season he was on it again, with 21 in 20 matches. They were promoted again, above Boston, and into the National League. This season, after six in 21 games, he joined Eastleigh, who are fighting for promotion to the Football League. He has only appeared three times for the Spitfires since his early April move.
