Conor McGrandles has earned high praise from Michael Skubala ahead of the trip to Peterborough United.
Statistically, one of the top midfielders in the division, he’s often gone unnoticed by Imps fans, especially at the tail end of last season. Against Luton and Chelsea, he’s been outstanding, but our head coach told Imps+ that he’s been impressed by the Scot for much longer than just two matches.

“I think he’s been in form a lot longer than he’s getting credit for, if I’m honest,” he told Rob Makepeace. “People probably know it because he’s played a lot for me over time. Conor does things that go unnoticed quite a lot for the team.
“He’s such a selfless midfielder; he’s everywhere, he covers every blade of grass. He’s a big player for us in how we want to be.”
Conor is about to rack up his 160th outing in an Imps shirt across his three spells, all of which feel a little different. He’s a holding midfielder for us, tireless in his effort, but when he first signed, he had creativity and a goal or two in his locker.

That’s something Michael feels the former Falkirk man has shown over the past couple of matches – quality on the ball as well as unrivalled effort off it.
“Over the last two games, you’ve seen his extra quality on the ball—the pass to Freddie Draper that slides him in shows what he’s got. His calmness too; he calms the game really well.
“Against Chelsea, he was still getting on the ball and playing. I’ve been happy with his form for a lot longer than two games. I think all of them are starting to hit a bit of form, which makes it competitive.
McGrandles looks likely to hold his position in the team this weekend, with Tom Bayliss likely to return alongside him. On the bench, club-record signing Ivan Varfolomeev provides some real competition for places, leaving us looking strong in midfield.
