Possible Signing This Week: Who Might Be In The Frame?

Miles Welch-Hayes

We’re taking a huge leap with this one because he’s one of only two players on the list who does not play up front.

The reason for tagging him on the end is tenuous, to say the least: he made one appearance for Oxford United under Michael Appleton is 2016/17. Michael released him at the end of that season and he drifted into non-league football with Bath City, before earning a move to Macclesfield Town.

He’s done well for the struggling Silkmen this season, but asked to have his contract terminated this week amidst their financial problems. The thought is he’s got another offer all lined up. He’s 23-years-old and might fit the bill of the young player for the future, although I do think we’re sorted with defenders.

Theo Vassell and Paddy Osadebe are the other two released by Macclesfield, although it’s unlikely all three will be going anywhere other than Southend. In fact, by the time you read this, I expect at least one or two of them to have been announced.

  1. Speculate away, Gary. As ever, a read as fascinating as the context is baffling. It feels like David Holdsworth all over again. “He’s got two legs. Sign him.”

  2. Blimey! David Holdsworth. That was desperate patching of holes in a sinking ship by a man of many patches. We are now recruiting for a voyage of discovery. Anyway, nice to hear from you Mike!
