Five Lincoln City Signings Who Looked The Real Deal, But Weren’t

Jason Perry

The Jason Perry Q&A: Cardiff City's hierarchy needs changing and Peter Whittingham is still key to success - Wales Online

This one might come out of leftfield for many, but I remember how excited I was when we signed Jason Perry. He had been a solid performer for Cardiff, appearing 344 times for them before moving to Bristol Rovers. He played regularly for the Gas in Division Two (now League One) and when we were promoted put pen to paper on a deal with us. He had been capped by wales for years earlier and was 28 when he signed for us – surely in his prime?

Nope. He started ten league games for us, but we sank to the bottom of the division. He made his last outing as we beat Cheltenham in the FA Cup, starting that game, but then didn’t appear again. At Christmas, he was sold to Hull City, then in the division below, and all the hype and promise was gone. I can’t help but wonder if there was a financial motivation behind him leaving the club, as we were cash-strapped and he was a relatively big signing for us at the time.
