Worst Performance of the Month – Swindon – 5.63

Errors, misplaced passes and a general malaise seemed to dog our 2-2 draw with Swindon, but was it really one of the worst performances of the season so far? You certainly seemed to think so, from the poor start down to the goals we gifted the struggling Robins. Only one player came out of the game with a seven, that being Tayo Edun, whilst you ranked ten of those who played lower than a six. It’s certainly one to forget.
Best Performance of the Month – Gillingham 7.83

Football fans, you’re an odd lot at times. The 3-0 away win at Gillingham wasn’t just the best performance of the month according to you, it is the best all season long, better than wins at Portsmouth and Crewe. I strongly suspect this has something to do with it being on TV, so more people saw the game and made an informed pick with their ratings. I also think the Steve Evans factor might be in play- a win is always better when it is against Big Steve, Isn’t it?
There were some big performances too – Joe Walsh grabbed an 8.8, Adam Jackson an 8.5 and Conor Mcgrandles 8.4. There were two others over eight average, Jorge Grant and Alex Palmer, in a game which certainly had you excited.
Best Individual Performance of the Month – Alex Palmer v Hull City 9.1

No player has cracked above a nine average rating in a game before this month, but Alex Palmer stepped forward and did just that as we beat Hull City on penalties in the EFL Trophy. His performance in the shoot-out surely helped, but he did have a sensational 90 minutes too, keeping the Tigers at bay in awful conditions. I feel for Alex a bit, because had he not made the two errors (against Accrington and Swindon), he was nailed on for Player of the Month. Sadly, a misplaced pass by a central defender can be salvaged, but an error by the stopper cannot. Still, he certainly deserves the individual award this month and come to the end of the season, I doubt anyone will better this one-off outing.
