Who Next? My Thoughts on a Successor

Michael Duff

Michael Duff interview: Cheltenham boss discusses their League Two rise, Sean Dyche and Burnley | Football News | Sky Sports

If we were going to tempt a manager away from another club, then I’d also be interested to see what Michael Duff might bring to Lincoln City. I’m not arrogant to believe we’re any bigger or better than Cheltenham, and there’s no suggestion he’d come, but along with Mark Bonner, I think he’s done wonders keeping his side in this division, comfortably. Duff has a track record of doing well with young players; he’s given Ellis Chapman regular League One minutes when neither Danny nor Michael did. He’s also got players like Charlie Colkett doing well at this level after coming down from a higher level, and was entrusted with the development of Leicester’s Callum Wright.

He’s also proven in League One; his Cheltenham side were among everyone’s favourites for the drop this season, but they were safe before we beat them 3-0. It’s the sort of combination that fans might look at and feel is the way forward; a cross between a proven manager, a former top-flight player and one who can develop younger players, or at least gives the impression he can, to keep our relationship going with Manchester City, Arsenal etc.
