Winner – Sean Roughan

I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but something didn’t always seem quite right about Sean Roughan and Michael. Sean was in favour, doing well, and then suddenly, nothing. I get there were injuries at times, but he came on Matchday Live last season and I recall him telling Sam he was fit and ready to play; we didn’t see him again. He went off to Southampton and Chelsea for trials, played for them, but was injured whenever the chance came up at City. He got one game, against Bowers this season, and despite doing well (and us lacking a natural left-sided defender) he didn’t get another runout.
I firmly believe this boy is still one of the crown jewels in our array of young players, and a new manager will get to see him impressing at Drogheda, and back here raring to go. If it’s Stephen Bradley who comes in, an Irishman, there might be an affinity there. After all, Bradley is currently managing in the same division Roughan is impressing in. If it’s an Ian Foster type, billed as being great with young players, then they’ll be keen to demonstrate that by bringing on some of our current crop – Roughan is surely furthest along that road to first team football.
Loser – Chris Maguire

If Chris Maguire was not Michael’s man, I’d be shocked. He played under him before, and he seemed to have a free pass in the side this season. When he played badly, he kept his spot, and yet when others seemingly played well (Haks v MK Dons for instance) they were dropped. Mags had a pop at supporters not once but twice and never seemed to be given interview duties. He was like Bozzie, but without the endearing qualities, and yet he played whenever he was fit. There’s lots of talk about the disconnection between staff and supporters, but in this instance, it’s something even I can get on board with. I suspect he might be looking elsewhere in the summer now Michael has gone.
