Winner – Theo Archibald
When asked about the winger’s future recently, and whether he had one at Lincoln, our former manager answered: “He could. I don’t see it if I’m being honest, but he’ll come back and be a Lincoln player at the start of pre-season.” It was a slammed door, a closed avenue. The last players Michael said that about were Zack Elbouzedi and MAx Melbourne. The latter, released (one assumes) this summer, even scored when he came back, but isn’t getting a new deal. This seemed like Theo was being told ‘thanks but no thanks’, despite a decent season for Leyton Orient.
Like Max Sanders, the slate might just be cleared now. Theo is still a young man, he’s still had experience at Brentford and Celtic and perhaps a new man might just be able to get a tune out of him. One thing is for certain; he has a deal in place for another year, and a new coach might find value there.
Loser – David Kerslake
I was told that we were lucky to get Kers, a man who had a top-flight career and who had coached at some big clubs. He came here because of Michael, because he wanted to work with the man who everyone was tipping to be a massive success. I think, to a degree, Michael has been a success, but that is over now. Any new manager will want his own men and even though I haven’t seen an announcement, I would imagine that means David Kerslake’s involvement at Lincoln City will come to an end. Like most assistant managers, we didn’t see a lot of him; I interviewed him once and he was a nice guy, straight-talking and not interested in discussing himself or his career.
Still, he played a part in a great season for us last time out, and if he does go, I wish him all the best.
