Ref Watch: Wycombe Wanderers (H)

Referee: ADAM HERCZEG
Assistants: Mark Jones and Ryan Williams
Fourth Official: James Westgate

This weekend we welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Bank, hoping to get some points on the board. Wycombe matches have, in the past, been difficult to referee, so have we got one worth his wages this weekend?

It’s hard to tell, as Adam Herczeg is only in his second year. He appeared in the National League in 202/21 and had a decent season. He only sent off two players, both against Chesterfield at the Proact Stadium in front of a big crowd. The following season he didn’t issue a red card and stepped up to the Football League. We had him once last season, for the EFL Trophy game against Doncaster, but I wasn’t convinced.

“There were no nasty tackles, but somehow referee Adam Herczeg spotted 13 – a ludicrous amount for a glorified friendly. He was poor all game, from not letting us make a sub in the build-up to the goal that levelled the game, through to his inconsistency and pickiness. If I see his name on one of our league fixtures, I’ll certainly not relish the afternoon’s football.”

He didn’t have a bad record in terms of reds – he only sent off two players all last season, none after our game with Doncaster. He hasn’t officiated this campaign yet, and his last game in League One was Burton and Oxford in January, where Dale Taylor scored, the same Dale Taylor on loan at Wycombe.
